Santa Cut Out

A desire to be hands-on in the garage led me to sketch some Santa designs, which could then be used as a template for cutting into a plank of wood. Just a fun project to get me away from the computer.

My online research had led me to some really incredible wooden cut-outs and engravings of Saint Nick. I’ve loved some of the old Father Christmas designs, but for a first attempt at something like this, it’s always best to keep things simple and silly. 🙂

I’d love to have a workbench in the garage. Instead, there’s a small table jimmy-rigged, which works well enough for me to cut out my design with a jigsaw.

After some minor sanding and a coat of sealant, I took to painting my little Santa using the basic colors.

I like the result and hope I can make more wood cut-outs in 2013.
