I’ve been itching to create a finished project for awhile now, as well as do more digital painting. Two birds, meet one stone.
The original ink outline of this character is in my sketchbook, which I used as reference to begin this project today. I have avoided doing more digital works like these because I’m not very good at it. I will usually start a drawing and then the lighting is all wrong and I get stuck trying to fix it and everything goes downhill from there.

On this project, I was very smart to draw the outline, designate my single light source and block in some basic colors, which eventually are blended together with different shades and textures to get the final result.
This painting took about 6 hours in Photoshop with my Wacom pen tablet.
And I’ll be honest, after I painted the first eye and struggled, I decided one eye is all this doll really needs. I mean, honestly. What does it need two eyes for?? So.. black, empty socket to the rescue. I admit to taking the easy way out. In honor of the upcoming film TRUE GRIT, starring Jeff Bridges.
