David Allen Ward posted another Blender 3D tutorial focusing on creating a grassy hillside using UV mapping and a barky, leafy tree using python scripts. I’m sure he put allot of work and thought into this.
All I did was follow along and create my own version, which is pretty close to his version. Whatever.
This was fairly simple to create and looks like a great final result. I was surprised at the techniques used, which were all right under my nose this whole time, and I love having the additional knowledge and skill set.
However, in general, when I think of bump maps or scripting or UV maps, I get real nervous. Honestly, if I am going to attempt those things, I need someone to hold my hand because there are a myriad of steps involved and I do not, currently, commit enough time practicing.
Truth be told, when it comes to producing an image, I have always been terrible at creating backgrounds, sets, props and other details. I know these things help the believability of the scene, but I just don’t have that magic touch. MUST CORRECT THIS!! MUST MUST MUST!! COME ON, NOW!
I much prefer modeling my little creature and animating him and having lots of fun. But the time has come for me to produce something of slightly higher quality, with respect to a greater investment in details. I am not making any other announcements at this moment.
Ok? So stay tuned..
Did I hear “details”?? My little ears are perked
What that scene REALLY needs is a giggling dog and some ducks flying around… it looks just like Duck Hunt.
You said, yourself, that you get yourself distracted by the characters, and it’s the same in your live-action movies, too, but with your brand of creativity, I’d actually really love to see what you’d do if you started pouring some attention into background detail.
Thanks, Mark.
I definitely want another stab at this hillside scene – this time using my imagination instead of following exactly the steps on the tut.
In terms of details on future projects, it takes so much longer to have details (I’d rather just blur out the bg in camera, and prolly will
), but the results will be rewarding. I’m planning something pretty neat for an animated short for the LetsMakeMovies thing we’re doing.
