monster’s day

want a cookie with me?
by dannykneip

had this concept in my brain BEFORE i remembered mother’s day was this weekend. it is merely a coincidence that the green monster should appear this sunday – strangely, the same sunday i purposely am NOT celebrating mother’s day.

i am not evil, i promise! ;D (send your hate mail to markmushakian.com)

monster + cookie

i have been practicing with illustrator (instead of inkscape, for a change) and my walls are covered with sticky notes highlighting all the keyboard shortcuts for these various programs (ps, blender, il-2 sturmovick 1946, etc.).

and everytime i learn a software and play with it for awhile, i quickly grow tired of it and move on to the next play toy. is it a commentary of my life so far? am i doomed to a life of waning focus and scattered, unfinished projects? will i always be a soulless, emotionally crippled grinch bouncing from one chica to the next?

let’s not get carried away; i’m not emotionally crippled. i have feelings and fears just like all of you. i enjoy making people cry just like everyone else.

but i really relish victory and overcoming fear – the latest victim: “gradient maps” inside illustrator. yes, it’s easier to make character shadings using solid paths instead of gradients. but dammit, there are many ways to skin a cat! now hold that cat still and let’s get back to work!

truth be told, after struggling with perfecting my first gradient map, i HAD to make another. and another. and another!! now i can’t stop!!

i have not mastered the art, but i am taking baby steps toward being a more perfect artist. stay tuned..

I appreciate the service, as always ;)

Regarding the constant moving on… I think it’s more a commentary on your satisfaction levels. After the long debacle that was Get Back, I have learned so much, and stretched myself so far in terms of creativity, now that it’s over – even though we didn’t finish, I am satisfied. I have zero desire in regards to making movies right now, because I have fulfilled that thirst with what I learned during the Get Back process. I am tired, yes, but not worn out, and I will be ready to make something again – but for now I am content. Of course, I have many other creative aspects that are yet unfulfilled, so I’m working on those :)

haha, and yes… as soon as I saw the link on Facebook titled Monster’s Day with a green monster picture, I knew it had NOTHING to do with today’s holiday ;)

thanks, mark. i can’t wait till “von bloch” is finished. luckily, we don’t have to reshoot anything so you hit the lottery there. but i sure would like to have it done by christmas (2009)! and hopefully you will be ready to make another movie by then! ;)
